Summer time!

We have enjoyed summer to say the least... We had swim lessons, and going to the drive-in hitting the Hagermans fossil museum, and the National fish hatchery.. lots of fun!
Here are the boys in the back of the van waiting for the movie to start, it was a double feature, Despicable me and Toy Story 3~

SWIM LESSONS~ We went as a family again, Kevin in the big boy class and me and Tyler with Cameron in the tadpoles class... last year of enjoying "family swim lessons" sniff, sniff!

the first time he needed help, the second time, he needed no help, he did it himself!

Kevin jumping off, never got a good picture of him in the air, but he did jump on his own! (they made them wear life jackets because of previous accidents)
Plus the the 8th of August was my great grandmothers 100th birthday, so we headed to Denver for the party! My cousins amazing wife sent this picture she caught of us, Now I am trying to get the rest from my Dad, my kids are her 5th generation so we got some pics of that!

The Garden

We have been enjoying the ease of gardening this year, with an automatic watering system and 1/3 of the garden in grow boxes life is easy! Take a look!

Here are the roma tomatoes along with carrots and some herbs...

Here are the pumkins sprawling across the front with cucumbers and cantaloupe growing up the trellis' in back.
The corn.. tall and beautiful this year...
Plus we have invited some fun friends to our garden.. SEE~
Ok, I'll zoom in for you! Here he is just chillin on a pumpkin leaf, the boys just love going out to see where he is hangin out!

This year is the first year the kids are big enough to really get the garden, Kevin climes the fence every time he wants a tomato, goes and finds a red one and asks me to cut it up for him! Cameron's favorite are the cucumbers, and they both are waiting patiently for the corn to be ready so we can eat it for a month strait!

It sure has been a great year, we have been enjoying lots of good bugs which means fewer bad bugs!

A Conversation

Kevin has been very in to snakes lately. He has a rock in the end of a tube sock he's been carrying around for about a week which he has dubbed "snakey". So, one day I was home with Kevin while Catherine was out. When she got home, the following conversation took place...

Kevin: Mommy, Mommy, come see the snake I want!
Tyler (to Catherine): I was showing Kevin pictures of snakes on the internet and now he says he
wants to buy one.
Catherine: I'm ok with that as long as he's willing to hold it.
Tyler: shocked dumb look on his face while jaw on the floor.

Two days later...

Oops! I think Mommy was thinking Kevin wouldn't actually hold one.

This post brought to you by Tyler.

Summer fun!

the boys wanted to get out the slip-n-slide and yesterday was the perfect day! they loved it!

It was especially fun after Dad came home and jumped on with them! Between the slip-n-slide and the bubbles, the backyard had at least 4 inches of standing water at the end of day... but I think it was worth it!

A sneak peek...

So we decided to redo our guest bathroom it is tiny and the ugly yellow/white that it always has been... Here is a before...

Here is the pre-after!.. I haven't quite finished the little decorations that will make the place great!...but me and Tyler really love it!

What do you think?

Before and After Home Improvement

The front door: the plain jane construction door, and apparently I didn't take any "afters" with the tape off the door, lol. I'll have to do that later!

Before: plain jane, white, same as when we bought the joint look.

During: my message to Tyler, his message back (he added the 2) :)

After: the exact color I saw in my head, the cabinets just "pop" P.S. don't make fun of my messy fridge, I was on a "free from kids time line" I will clean it now that the kids are back.

So what do you think? not bad for a couple of days without kids huh?... but thats not all, we have a few other projects that got started but are not quite finished cause I was missing my kids too badly... but before and afters will be up soon!

My dream home..

So all this home improvement has me dreaming of my dream house... I think it is so fun to go look through floor plans! ( this is a list of things I would change about the house we are in now, as well as those things that "would be nice" as well as a few "if I won the lottery" things)
  • A Flat lot
  • A lot big enough for a garden and a few fruit trees with room leftover for the kids to run and play as well as the dogs!
  • I like a one level house with a basement over a house with two stories.
  • On the ground floor there must be a bedroom with a bathroom or two bedrooms with a bathroom, ( I don't know why but I always picture one of our parents coming to live with us when they get old... my parents deny this will ever happen, and I have never asked Tyler's parents about it.)
  • I like having the idea of all the bedrooms on one floor and the rest of the stuff on another (other than the whole grandparent suite thing)
  • You can not see my kitchen or my family room from the front door (deal breaker)
  • I would like to have a guest room. ( that isn't the storage, catch everything else room)
  • I like the kitchen, breakfast nook, family room combo, just wish they weren't all the same room divided only by flooring.
  • In my mind a formal dining room (only used for Thanksgiving and Christmas)is a waste of space...
  • Give me lots of windows.. I love natural light! I love covered porches!
  • I want a beautiful bulb garden in the front yard!
So that is some of my wishes... what are yours?

My Style...

So we have lots of projects lined up for this summer and we have been doing a few home improvement things around the house, I have been looking threw some great DIY blogs... I love them... I get lost in them and at times the kids have to come get me..lol. The funny part is, I have no style... My husband hangs everything in our house, has every move we have ever made.. and he has great taste.. so that works for us! But as I do more and more projects I find things that I don't like, and things that I just love! Here they are:

  • I like solids or wide stripes, very few patterns ever catch my eye... way to busy!
  • I like textures, I like fabric to have textures...(think my headboard fabric)
  • I do not like flowery fabric!
  • I like stone, but it is way out of my price range..:)
  • I like silver over gold.
  • I like light colored wood over dark.
  • I don't think you can go wrong with a new coat of paint! (unless you are painting over light wood..bad!)
  • I think bedrooms should have a darker more subdued flavor, while kitchens, bathrooms and family rooms should all have a brighter feel. (how to get this to flow.. I have no idea)
  • Windows are made to be opened
  • The simpler a window covering the better.
  • If you have a big wall, you should have a big picture, or a bunch of little ones, but never both.
  • I don't want clutter, crafts and pictures of people or things that I have never seen in real life are not decorations, they are clutter. The only pictures in my house are of my family, temples or of religious significance for me.
  • I believe that your decorations should reflect the things you love.
  • My one exception: Decorations can be useful... i.e. I use the "decorative" trivets that hang on my wall.
  • I like glass shelves, and am perfectly fine with only a few things on each shelf. no need to over do it!
  • Trim should be a different color that your wall.
  • I love crown molding, have never had any, but it sure makes a room look rich!
  • Lighting fixtures bore me. Haven't found one that makes me want to Do it myself yet.
  • A large mirror can change a room.
  • An objects use usually trumps "but it looks cute!"
  • I love the look of bead board and board and batten. Think it is a cheap way to dress up a room!
  • I don't buy things "aged" or "antiqued" ... I will add my own dings thank you!
So thats a taste of my style, whats yours?

The matching footboard

We made the matching foot board last night! Never realized that there was a need for one, but I LOVE IT!
