My Style...

So we have lots of projects lined up for this summer and we have been doing a few home improvement things around the house, I have been looking threw some great DIY blogs... I love them... I get lost in them and at times the kids have to come get me..lol. The funny part is, I have no style... My husband hangs everything in our house, has every move we have ever made.. and he has great taste.. so that works for us! But as I do more and more projects I find things that I don't like, and things that I just love! Here they are:

  • I like solids or wide stripes, very few patterns ever catch my eye... way to busy!
  • I like textures, I like fabric to have textures...(think my headboard fabric)
  • I do not like flowery fabric!
  • I like stone, but it is way out of my price range..:)
  • I like silver over gold.
  • I like light colored wood over dark.
  • I don't think you can go wrong with a new coat of paint! (unless you are painting over light wood..bad!)
  • I think bedrooms should have a darker more subdued flavor, while kitchens, bathrooms and family rooms should all have a brighter feel. (how to get this to flow.. I have no idea)
  • Windows are made to be opened
  • The simpler a window covering the better.
  • If you have a big wall, you should have a big picture, or a bunch of little ones, but never both.
  • I don't want clutter, crafts and pictures of people or things that I have never seen in real life are not decorations, they are clutter. The only pictures in my house are of my family, temples or of religious significance for me.
  • I believe that your decorations should reflect the things you love.
  • My one exception: Decorations can be useful... i.e. I use the "decorative" trivets that hang on my wall.
  • I like glass shelves, and am perfectly fine with only a few things on each shelf. no need to over do it!
  • Trim should be a different color that your wall.
  • I love crown molding, have never had any, but it sure makes a room look rich!
  • Lighting fixtures bore me. Haven't found one that makes me want to Do it myself yet.
  • A large mirror can change a room.
  • An objects use usually trumps "but it looks cute!"
  • I love the look of bead board and board and batten. Think it is a cheap way to dress up a room!
  • I don't buy things "aged" or "antiqued" ... I will add my own dings thank you!
So thats a taste of my style, whats yours?

-Any knick-knacks given to me usually go straight to goodwill.

Let's see...

-I like solids with a pop of fun pattern.
-I agree, I love textures.
-I like flowery fabric, but only VERY specific kinds of flowery fabric. I'm really, really picky when it comes to that.
-I agree, I like stone, but it is way out of my price range..:)
-I love pewter, over shiny silver or gold. I'm warming up to the dark metals coming out, but I worry it makes things look too dark.
-I think bathrooms and especially kitchens should look bright, light, and fresh.
-If I go with wood, I prefer reds, like American Cherry. Overall, though I'm not a huge wood fan.
-I dream of a brightly-painted kitchen (like yellow or chartreuse or red) with white cupboards and charcoal-colored granite counters.
-I love rich colors in the master bedroom, bright fresh colors in the kids' ones.
-I love hardwood floors.
-I like nice, clean lines with a touch of whimsy.
-I only put paintings (or prints) up that I truly love. I was an art history major, so I'm kinda picky about that. I never just put up something b/c it matches.
-I love it when something is beautiful and functional. Best of both worlds.
-I agree, trim should be a different color that your wall, preferable white trim with a colored wall.
-I agree, I love crown molding, it just fancifies everything!
-Lighting fixtures excite me. I can't wait to buy a house and re-do them all myself.
-I didn't realize what board and batten was for the longest time b/c around here (90% of the houses are old), everyone has to deal w/paneling and most people just paint over it...so, I thought it was just painted over paneling!
-I'm not much of an aged/antiqued girl myself. Like I mentioned earlier, I just like nice clean lines and edges on furniture.
-I adore ruffles and pleats. Not the big "country" ruffles of the 90s, but sophisticated, chic ruffles.
